Super Bowl III was the third edition of the National Football League (NFL) championship game and was played on January 12, 1969, at the Miami Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. The game was between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Jets. In a major upset, the New York Jets won the game with a final score of 16-7. The victory by the Jets, who were 18-point underdogs, is widely considered one of the greatest upsets in the history of American sports. Jets quarterback Joe Namath famously guaranteed a win before the game, and he went on to deliver, throwing for 206 yards and one touchdown.
